気候危機の深刻化、医療システムの機能不全、高齢化社会の進行など、極めて厄介な問題が累積する今日、世界ではこうした問題に対する新しい解決策が求められています。過去10年間で「デザイン思考」は、人間をイノベーションの中心に据えるための強力な手法として社会に浸透してきました。しかし、問題のスピード、規模、複雑性が増すにつれ、それらに対応する方法もまた同様に変化しています。経営者であれ、政策立案者であれ、あるいはそれ以外のイノベーションを支援するミッションを持った者であれ、今こそこれまでとは異なる考え方をすべき時です。

デンマーク・デザイン・センター（DDC）のCEOを務めるクリスチャン・ベイソン氏は、その新著『Expand: Stretching the Future by Design』（共著者：イェンス・マーティン・スキブステッド氏）のなかで、従来の技術志向とは異なる新たな創造的思考を促し、より持続可能な未来への道を切り開くことに寄与する、6つの「拡張思考」を提唱しています。本講演では、この新著の執筆を通じて得られた知見や洞察を、倫理的デザインなどの既存の概念や実践と関連づけながら共有していただきながら、DDCのミッション領域である「グリーン」「デジタル」「ソーシャル」のそれぞれにおいて社会的インパクトを創出するために当センターの活動をはじめ、世界各地の様々な事例についても触れていただく予定にしております。

BEYOND DESIGN THINKING: ETHICAL APPROACHES TO SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION

The world is screaming for new solutions to its most thorny problems: Climate change, health care, the future of ageing. For the past decade, “design thinking” has emerged as a powerful approach to placing human beings at the heart of innovation. However, as problems keep expanding in speed, scale and complexity, so much the ways in which we address them. Whether you manage a business, are a policy maker, or have a formal mandate to support innovation, it is time to think differently.

In his new book, “Expand: Stretching the Future by Design”, co-authored with Jens Martin Skibsted, Christian Bason, PhD, author and CEO of the Danish Design Center, propounds six ways of “expansive thinking” that can challenge traditional technology orientation, drive new creative thinking, and pave the way to more sustainable futures. During this talk, he will share some of the insights the authors gained through working on this new book, putting them in context with existing concepts and practices such as ethical design, by providing a range of examples from around the world, including the work of the Danish Design Centre, the institution he leads to create societal impact across green, digital and social missions.

Christian Bason, CEO, Ph.D. leads the Danish Design Centre (DDC), a non-profit foundation backed by the Danish government. Pursuing missions across green, digital and social transitions, the DDC creates new opportunities for innovation and sustainable growth for business, organizations and designers. Previously, Christian was Director of MindLab, the Danish government’s innovation team, and Business Manager with Ramboll Management Consulting. Christian is the author of eight books on innovation, design and leadership, including Expand: Stretching the Future by Design, co-authored with Jens Martin Skibsted. He has published in amongst other Harvard Business Review and Stanford Social Innovation Review. He has taught executives at Oxford Saïd Business School, Henley MBA, the European School of Administration and Copenhagen Business School. Christian is M.Sc. in political science and Ph.D. in design, leadership and governance.
